Lovely peaceful place, grand rooms and views, staff really nice, hearty breakfasts

Wanted a bath on second night after cycling but water was warmish rather than hot. Was OK but could have been hotter. (Shower was good though) I know it's an old (huge) building and has lots of charm because of that but I do think it's time for a lick of paint on outside. Appreciate it's a big job but everything else is so nice its a shame that first impressions of exterior are a little shabby,

We were given a lovely big room on 1st floor, triple aspect view amazing. I love the soft blue tweedy carpet although it's a wee bit marked now in places but lovely to walk on in bare feet! Bathroom spotless, nice shiney bath. So quiet and peaceful I love the grandness of the hall lounge and bedroom. All staff were so nice and welcoming. Enjoyed breakfast each morning (thanks Ezekiel and Margella), good choice, and very generous although I had to eat less on days 2 and 3 as I ate so much on day 1! Nice to wander round the grounds too...felt like lady of the manor

The hotel was as described very tired. The communal areas in particular. The breakfast sausage was cheap, and I always think you can judge a breakfast by the quality of its sausage. Bed pillows not good.

The staff were pleasant. Particularly the chef. The grounds and the hotel itself have such promise with some sound investment this could be a boutique hotel /spa but it would take some serious cash! And it just doesn't feel like there is the cash available especially in this current climate, however the price we paid for 3 nights I thought was particularly high considering the hotel, so the money clearly isn't being spent well at all. Such a shame. I do hope things can be turned around. The room and bed were quite comfortable. Bathroom needed updating.

Quite tired looking and generally a bit shabby however overall was charming and clean. Breakfast was disappointing.

Beautiful old building with lots of character and stunning views. Huge family room with really comfy beds. Basic bathroom (but did job perfectly) with great water pressure in shower. Location great for exploring the area. Lovely safe walking path into Aberfoyle.

The bar was closed. Would have loved to eat dinner in the facility as travelling with a toddler can be stressful. The village was close by but no food on a Monday night.

The rooms were fabulous, spacious for a family of 3 adults and one toddler. The beds were so comfortable.

The exterior needs a paint but didn’t negatively impact us! The building and grounds are beautiful!

Fabulous location to explore beautiful Scottish countryside - a plethora of great hikes and bike rides on the doorstep. Rooms spacious, comfortable and rather regal! Staff brilliant and customer oriented. An outstanding stay and can’t understand why it only gets 6.5 points but perhaps as the reviews were some time ago. I’d say the rooms have certainly been upgraded since then.

Every thing else. The hotel was in a disgraceful state, it looked as though no maintenance had been carried out for many a long year. The driveway is more like a farm track than a road, littered with pot holes. You arrive to see what looks like a dilapidated dormitory on the right fronted by an untended garden. The hotel itself wouldn't be out of place in a Scooby Doo film, from the outside it looks almost abandoned. Both rooms we were offered were awful, so pokey and smelling musty. 3 of the 4 bath towels had stains on them and did not smell fresh at all. There was no hair dryer or iron in either room as advertised and one of the rooms didn't even have a mirror in it. The furniture and fittings were a hotch potch of cheap and nasty items looking as though they had come from a house clearance 50 years ago.

The staff were good and gave us a refund without any fuss.

Smelly, musty room with broken window. No tv or WiFi in bedroom, I know this might be heaven to some but we wouldn't have stayed there if we'd known. Gartmore house was once used as a d list school, from appearances , it may as well still be . Poor girl on reception had obviously heard lots of complaints as she went into robot mode when I told her about the window and strange odour in our room, thanking me for my feedback and promising to pass on my comments. No wonder my card was charged as soon as I booked , because I probably wouldn't have paid full price. Poor Gartmore house, it needs a fortune spent on it to keep going and shape up.

It was really sunny so chairs and a wee table outside would have been great and nibbles too would have been great.

We could not get a take away and Vicky arranged for toast, cheese and ham to be sent up to our room so that we could have supper. She was super helpful.

    nothing and that is fact.

in comparison to several other mansion houses/castles we have stayed in ,Gartmore House is well above average .All the staff where friendly and went out of their way to help us with anything we needed. The room was very good and spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good and plenty of it . Fair enough there was no tv in the bedroom but with the truly interesting house gardens and views who needs to watch repeats of neighbours or eastenders. The bottom line is value for money was excellent

I think the hotel had only just reopened so you would expect it to be very clean and ready to invite their guests. The reception area was so bare and dismal that we asked the staff if they were actually open for business. The bedroom was no better - the headboard and side tables were thick with dust and the bed cover and inner duvet were full of stains. We were given a new room which was marginally better. The hotel was not busy (I think we may have been one of two families in the whole hotel) so I don’t know why the rooms were not clean. The hotel itself is beyond tired looking. The photos used for advertising on the booking sites are not up to date and do not clearly represent what the hotel is now. The breakfast was abysmal - I had to ask what 2 of the food items were. 1 was scrambled egg and the other was potato scones. Completely unrecognisable! Again, the dining room was dirty with only 1 table set. I don’t know how the hotel management can justify charging the prices that they do. We couldn’t wait to leave.

There was nothing that we liked about this hotel. In fact, I spent my first couple of hours trying to find a new hotel that we could move to. Unfortunately for us there was nothing available in the area and we had to complete our stay.
