Well, it was fairly expensive - but understandable over Hogmanay. We also booked late, and it was worth it for us.

Really comfortable, stylish place with lovely people to welcome and host us. Fantastic breakfasts. For us, this was a perfect location, as we wanted to be near Newington, to link in with relatives there. It would also be good for Central Edinburgh, as the bus stops right outside.

Everything is very well!

The room is very clean and quiet! The bed is comfortable and the heater is hot. Jimmy and Fiona are very kind people and like them very much! They prepare breakfast according to everyone's different needs, meticulous and thoughtful, and look forward to coming again next time! Come here, you'll love it, I promise!

Unfortunately we couldn't get a double room as the hotel was full, so our twin room was a bit small. Also, we were in a room at the front of the property which is on the main road so it was quite noisy at night. However, I had a glimpse at the double rooms which look beautiful and if you stay at the back of the property, I'm sure it would be quiet.

Beautiful property with onsite parking and close to several pubs, restaurants. Easy bus trip into the city. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

I loved it all.

Fiona and Jimmy thought of everything you could or would need on a getaway. Breakfast was the tops! The house was in an easily navigable area. Yes everyone should treat themselves to a stay here.

The hosts were fantastic. There were lots of options for breakfast even for a vegetarian like me. I would highly recommend the veggie haggis! The room was spotless. Nice bed. The location is fantastic if you want somewhere near Edinburgh City centre.

There is nothing I'd improve.

Glenalmond house was ideally located for being close to the city centre. Jimmy and Fiona were so welcoming and couldn't do more for you. The hotel was spotlessly clean and absolutely perfect. Breakfast was excellent. We cannot fault it and will be back.

Beautiful house. Excellent location. Bus line was easy and convenient. Clean with everything you need. Lounge was great with comfortable furniture, beverages, glasses,ice. Great food!

The room is very small. Small bathroom. Host Fiona was not friendly. The breakfast was ok but not great.

Parking on site. Easy to reach the city by bus. Jimmy the host was very friendly. We got some packages delivered what we appreciated but that was no issue as well at other places we stayed.

Nothing to report, it was all perfect!

A really exceptional stay, and we'll come again. Jimmy and Fiona have a stunning house and home, beautifully adorned with a very keen eye for decor and design. Loved the portraits of the Stuart Monarchs, and some of Jimmy's antique finds. Our room was spotless, plenty of room for our clothes etc. Glenalmond house is ideally situated too - very easy to get here, and Edinburgh's old town is just a walk away (or mere minutes via the regular bus service). The thing that really stood out though was the friendliness of the owners, we were made very welcome - together with the relaxed atmosphere. The cherry on top? The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Wide range of options to choose from. My full Scottish breakfast has everything, and was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. Thanks Jimmy and Fiona for a really fab wee stay.

Extremely pleasant stay. The couple running the guest house welcomed me in and it felt like staying at family. Even with the 10 rooms they always remembered my name, the things I went and saw around the city, and gave tips for new things to explore.

The room was too small to call it family deluxe superior (that's what it was called on booking.com). The guesthouse is located further away from the centre than it was said in the description and it's not about 10 minutes by bus, it's about 20. The quickest way to get to the center is by taxi, about 10 minutes outside rush hours. Jimmy's wife was rather on the unapproachable side, which made us feel more like intruders than guests.

Excellent breakfast, comfortable private car park. The host, Jimmy, was friendly helpful and welcoming. Thank you Jimmy for calling for a taxi for us.

Could not figure out the shower settings...

It was a last moment booking, so perhaps not a first choice, but it was clean and had a parking spot. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfast had enough choice. The bathroom was warm and the bed was comfortable.

Tight spaces between beds and bathroom, but was manageable.

Well presented, excellent host, really enjoyed the welcome and they were there when needed. Explained what need to be explained and left us to it, really good place. Will definitely book again.

There is not much space in the room.

Quiet street, beautiful house, about 20 minutes by bus to the center (buses run practically all the time). Every evening you can choose (on the paper form) what kind of breakfast you want in the morning. You can choose from a Scottish breakfast, a vegetarian breakfast, or you can have an omelette, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs with salmon... Very good drip coffee. Willing and kind owners.
