Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe booked this hotel last minute and late at night. Booking confirmed our hotel, but I knew there was a chance that they might not have confirmed themselves. When we got there, because of the last minute booking their receptionist had already left. Regardless, the guy was super sweet and when we called upper management, they told him to accommodate us and that they would handle it in the morning. They were able to keep us in our room for the two nights that we were there. Very helpful.

United StatesThe rooms are very dated. They have a cheap and moldy ahower curtain in the bathroom instead of a glass door. No air conditioning . It would be nice to have sealed water bottles in the room instead of the clay ecofilter
The property is beautiful; the staff is very nice. The best part are the beautiful gardens and the fact that is a lake front property

United StatesThe hotel assisted us with planning transportation which was difficult to coordinate and required cash which was complicated.
The gardens are gorgeous and it was wonderful to have access to the kayaks, organizing the boat tours, and helping with transportation into the town. It was also great to be able to walk to the Nature Reserve for ziplining and walking around.

United StatesBrunch was overpriced. Service in the restaurant is lacking. There was always a long lag time.
The grounds. This hotel sits on the lake with beautiful views of a lush garden. There is a private dock for a boat, mini beach, hot tub/ Infiniti pool and regular pool. There is an aviary near the restaurant where the birds sometimes hop out looking to grab a bite of unattended food. There is a parrot and tucan on the grounds that's beautiful. The hotel has dark finishings making the hotel feel darker.

United StatesI wish they had more dining options on site. The breakfast was lovely but the dinner menu could use some creativity. But that’s a minor complaint.
The garden grounds are expansive and beautiful! The views of Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes from our little terrace were breathtaking! The room was clean and well-appointed. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

United StatesI’m not sure if she was the owner/manager, but the older lady who seemed to be in charge was not friendly, and in one instance we had to wait to talk to the front desk staff while she admonished him in front of us. I felt sorry for all the staff we saw her treating meanly, and I felt heavy for the sadness she must hold being full of so much anger. It was not a good look for such a beautiful hotel that otherwise held so much positive energy.
This hotel delivered way more than I ever expected. The property grounds and gardens were absolutely immaculate and serene. The level of love and attention the staff puts into caring for the facility and guests is amazing. The pools were clean and the temperature perfect. The restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious with high quality ingredients and beautifully presented. Tuktuks were available whenever we wanted to go to town.

United StatesDisliked · Not a great welcome from reception. Not even a good parting at check out. The hotel seems to mainly cater to large tour groups, so we as individual travelers did not feel especially welcomed. No coffee or tea in rooms. Continental breakfast was not included in our room rate of about $250/night; it seems miserly not to include it.
Comfortable, spacious room with private balcony overlooking gardens and the lake. Great for birding. Evening restaurant staff was very professional and kind. Some good menu items.

United StatesThe bathrooms were not as spectacular but to be expected with an older property.
Beautifully landscaped property with classic Spanish accents. We loved walking the grounds. The breakfast was exceptional! We really enjoyed our stay. One high note was the reserve down the road. With the walking bridges and waterfall it was worth the price of admission.

United StatesThe rooms definitely appear worn. The mattresses were hard as a rock and the sheets rough and threadbare. The safe in our room did not work, and when we called the front desk to get it fixed they weren’t able to get someone out to look at it until the next day (and this didn’t fix the problem). We ended up hiding our valuables in our suitcases, which ended up working fine. We were in a garden view room which was the second room in from the foyer, which meant we had a clear view of the restaurant patio from our patio since we were almost right beside and level with it (we also had a pretty great view of the volcanos beyond the restaurant and gardens, to be fair). The restaurant plays loud music until fairly late, which was problematic for us when we were trying to go to bed early to be ready for our 2am wakeup for our sunrise hike. In addition to being loud, you will not have any privacy unless you keep your curtains closed if you find yourself in this room (and then the room is quite dark). I don’t think the rooms further away from the restaurant and/or on the second or third floor would have this issue though. Despite how close we were to the restaurant it was incredibly difficult to obtain a network connection in the room itself. Even using cellular data (vs. wifi) meant I had to go stand out in the garden or in the hallway. I also found it odd that although this hotel provides free water in the rooms it does not provide free coffee to guests. If you want a cup you will need to order it in the restaurant. Lastly, be aware that the hotel does not have an ATM and both the front desk and the gift shop are unable to make change, which you will need if you want to take a tuktuk into town and back. The tuktuk ride is not expensive and it is pretty short but you will still probably want to do this versus walking into town at night, as the path is quite dark and secluded.
I’m a little conflicted about Hotel Atitlan. On the good side, the grounds and gardens are absolutely stunning and I don’t think you can get a much better view than here anywhere else along the lake. I could have sat in the garden and taken in the view all day long! (especially at sunrise and sunset). All of the rooms face the lake, even the garden view rooms, so that means you likely have some sort of view from the balcony / patio of every room (note that the garden view rooms are all on the ground floor and some are slightly below the level of the garden [which is terraced toward the hotel in areas] so some of these rooms may not have much of a view). The pool and restaurant’s patio also look directly out on the lake and volcanos. The hotel has a small beach and a dock (although I didn’t see the public boats stopping here we were able to have a private boat dock directly), and the gorgeous gardens contain multiple tables and chairs where people can sit and enjoy the view. Because the hotel is not directly in Panajachel you will have to take a tuktuk into town if you want to go out to eat, to a bar, or to the main public dock. The hotel front desk can arrange this for you – just note that it will take approximately 10-15 minutes for the tuktuk to arrive. If you choose to eat at the hotel instead the food is decent. Not my favorite meals of the trip but I did appreciate that there were several options for vegetarians. In terms of the guest rooms, I liked how there was a separate vanity area outside the bathroom with a large mirror for getting ready, and I also appreciated that a huge jug of safe drinking water was provided so we were able to refill our water bottles throughout our stay without having to keep buying water.
