The only air conditioned room, other than our room, was a tiny bar area. So all meals were served outside, albeit with fans and in the shade, but with 36 degree temperatures and high humidity, it wasn’t a nice experience.

The property was in a quiet location in the heritage district, it was within walking distance of the beach and promenade. The food provided at breakfast was freshly prepared and tasted delicious.

The location is a bit of walk (`15 min) from the french quarters and beaches. This would be a pleasant walk in winters but not in the summer time. Just in case you are planning in summers

This was an amazing property and even in 35-40 degrees, we were quite comfortable. The rooms were stunning, staff friendly and the breakfast options were great. We had to room switch a bit due to faulty AC and running water stopped for an hour - but everything was handled extremely well by the staff. They were responsive and very accomodating. Huge thank you!

We had great days in Pondicherry and the hotel was excellent. The staff was amazing. My husband was congratulated on his birthday with both song and cake, and when he ended up in hospital at the end of our stay, they visited us and found solutions in terms of new accommodation. We are so grateful. Thank you Elby E.J, Jaison and all the other staff at Maison Perumal. Sofia o Göran

The location is very good in terms of the different segments of the city, not too far from the beach. But the surroundings are not beautiful, somewhat congested and there is no view from the rooms which are otherwise nice and big. Wish the bed was little wider for two persons.

Beautiful heritage building, very well maintained, tastefully decorated with extremely helpful staff and good food available on the premises. They have good program to go about town and also visit Auroville.

Although we had one of the two best rooms, it was next to the noisy road and so we ended up keeping the window shutters closed which made the room dark. We benefited from two reclining chairs outside the room but other rooms did not have anywhere as inviting to sit. The food and dining room were not as nice as the Palais de Mahe where we ate twice in the evening and where the service was better too.

A restored and attractive heritage property. Our room had good air con, a ceiling fan and a fridge.

Nothing that we didn’t like. Although there’s not a pool you can use the sister hotels pool where you are also made to feel very welcome. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the white town although taxis and tuk tuks are plentiful! There are a few more places to eat there. The hotel is actually in a much more peaceful part of town. The staff are amazing in both hotels which is what makes this special.

Very good all round, excellent speciality coffee served in a unique way and good breakfast choice with nice bread. We ate at the open air restaurant which was also very nice. We were also lucky enough to be in Pondicherry for the harvest festival and the hotel got us involved in making the special sweet rice that is made. There were welcome tasty cookies in the room which was a nice touch which were replaced😊.

    Absolutely nothing.

Maison Perumal property of CGH will remain in our memory for a long time for their wonderful hospitality, display of Indian culture and cuisines. From the very first day we reached the property, Mr. Jaison has made us feel like the property is extension of our home. The cleanliness was superb so too the facilities. Enjoyed their tea-coffee-cookie and banana in the room thoroughly. Whenever, next we will travel Pondichery, this will be the hotel we will always look for.

Not all rooms are the same. Some are quite small like the ones on the first floor so research well. Highly recommend the room #10 on the second floor I stayed in if you're looking for a nice place to wind down after an eventful day or prefer to remain indoors more -- it's SO worth the cost.

LOVED the room! So spacious and gorgeous. The brewing station with tea leaves made me so happy. In awe of the Franco-Tamil architecture, so glad they preserved it so well. The property is gorgeous. The staff is so sweet and the chefs are so talented. You've got to try their non-veg Tamil thali for lunch <3 The cooking demos are so fun and educational. The location is perfect for a stroll on the promenade and the beach. They've a lot of tours/activities to do through the property. You can also rent an e-bike and cruise through the quaint lanes near the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

Food wise, what they served was excellent, though they should have more options.

The property is an amazing heritage building, and just a KM or so away from Promenade beach. It can be considered to be between the railway station and the beach. There's a scooter rental just opposite, and a slight walk away, you have an auto stand. So, all in all, a pretty convenient location too. The staff are super efficiency and extremely accomodating.

Nothing really. If I have to pick something, then it will be the size of the room and bathroom. The furniture are bulky and the free space isn't much.

Maison Perumal stands true to what they claim to be - 'an experience hotel'. The place is nothing like a hotel. It gives a feel of home away from home, a feel of grand parents home back in Kerala or Tamil Nadu... warm and absolutely cosy. Its a 'naalukettu' with planters and green all around. CGH has left no stones unturned to provide the best experience of staying in a 130 yr old Chettiyar house. The staff was extremely courteous and did everything possible to make our stay memorable. It was my son's 13th b'day and I had placed a request for a small cake with a few specifications. Not only that the cake was sourced from the best bakery meeting all my requirements, but they also surprised us with decorations in the room and to top it all the cake was on them! They even gave a small b'day gift to my son. A very thoughtful gesture. Mornings were just like how its in a grandma's place... someone cleaning the house, putting the 'kolam', keerthans playing softly in the background, distant sound of the hustle and bustle of the busy morning kitchen. It was absolutely delightful. Jaison, the head staff, gave us the feel of an elder brother who saw us off handing over a bottle of water for the journey back, just like how it happens when we leave grand parents home! This is a place you would definitely want to go back...

About a particular night staff who also in charge of breakfast. His behaviour changed on our check out day. Like he started prioritising new guests and was acting weird towards us. This only happened on the last day.

    The property is exquisitely beautiful.

Lovely hotel with a boutique feel. Room was much better than it looked in the pictures. Lovely touches in the room (like the freshly brewed tea selection) and toiletries. Staff and food fantastic. We really enjoyed the complimentary cooking demonstration by the head chef. Really good introduction from staff upon check in explaining Pondicherry and things available around the city and the extra activities offered by the hotel.

Quaint yet well appointed. Exceptionally responsive staff. Well trained. Excellent homely food. Although not for those who like over masala and spice. Or like multi cuisine options. Don’t waste you time trying to eat in other places. There’s nothing special to offer in pondi. So make the most of this place.

Tamil quarters where Maison Perumal is located are still in development by INTAC, walking on the road is difficult with garbage, zipping-honking vehicles.

Property heritage, proximity to white town, the hospitality of the staff.
