The hotel should pay the cleaners properly so they don't have to ask money from customers every time after cleaning the room.

Absolutely wonderful hotel in a colonial era house in the heart of Varanasi, within walking distance to the Ghats. Relatively quiet, and the staff can make you feel like you're all one big family. The inner yard was extremely enjoyable.

It was an older property and there’s probably some minor maintenance issues that need to be addressed. One of the front desk staff spoke very little English but the manager was exceptional. There was a mix up with our taxi the morning of leaving, but they rectified and asked one of the team to drive us himself, we were very grateful.

Location was great, could walk to Ghats and markets. The manager also organised a city walking tour and sunset boat ride to see the Aarti. Restaurant was great - food and service, life music at dinner was an extra. Staff were great, particularly the guy who loved IPL cricket and talked non-stop about it, he was funny and friendly. We also got early checkin and the staff were very helpful.

The location and staff

Location is near to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and that is the reason we have selected. The entrance to hotel is little inconvenient and not very pleasant. Room is adjustable. Breakfast is not up to the mark we have expected.

Booking.com wasn’t transparent about the all inclusive price of the stay. Please read the fine print as I ended up paying the taxes. Some of the hotel staff could have been more prompt as we asked for few options but didn’t hear back, maybe they were pretty busy ;(

We booked room with breakfast but something went wrong so we get room only. It took some time to find out what went wrong, but in the end the hotel fixed is so that was good. And yes, when I hear once more a tuktuk beep I m gonna kill somebody ;-)

This hotel is located right in the main street of Varanasi. Near the Gaths. (By the way, you can walk along all the Gaths via the Ganges bank). Super nice staff, simple breakfast, clean rooms. Good hotel !

Fridge didn’t work for 2 days. Only lukewarm water in the evenings. A bit noisy as room next to the lift.

What a great location. A bit tricky to find but a call to the hotel soon sorted that. So close to the wonderful madness of Varanasi but amazingly peaceful. Not completely peaceful - that would be impossible due to its location. The rooms are small, but well organised. The air con was very efficient. Although others have commented on hot water problems, we didn't have any issues. The courtyard was charming. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they arranged a VIP trip to Aarti, river boat cruise and VIP trip to Golden Temple. It's well worth doing both the VIP Aarti trip and boat cruise. The food in the 1916 restaurant was good and I just loved Suhail - what a clever, lively character. His personality added charm to our stay. I had a mental block on his name even though he kept telling me. Hopefully I've got it right now.

The old town close to the ghats is crowded and noisy with relatively few quality hotels that charge a premium for their position. So there is a trade-off between staying here and the relatively better value that one gets staying further out. Despite its recessed position, there is always background street noise, the rooms don't have much natural light, the hot water is unreliable, and it seemed relatively expensive compared with other Indian city accommodation. Nevertheless, it was clean, comfortable, and, I suspect, one of the better hotels in the area.

Very helpful staff who can arrange tours and transport. Relatively quiet escape from the bustle of Varanasi set back from main road in small side street. Good restaurant. Close (10 min walk) to ghats.

Shree Ganesha Palace provided a comfortable stay in Varanasi, in a very convenient location, with a safe access from the main road. Sonu, at the front desk, was particularly friendly and kind.
