Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe walls are very thin so bring some earplugs. The toilet was very small so hard to sit down if you’re tall. But these were minor things overall we had a very good stay
Lovely traditional Japanese house, the owner was lovely and the guest house has a really nice social atmosphere so it was interesting to meet lots of other guests. The bed was comfy and there was lots of space for luggage. Good location

I had an amazing experience staying there when I visited Hagi. It's a traditional building with comfy bunkbeds and plenty of common areas to mingle with the other travellers. Kitchen is free to use and there are two toilets and a bathroom, all kept clean. The host has created a very warm and welcoming atmosphere and people usually sit down together for dinner and drinks. The place is a short walk to the beach and Hagi itself is a small town so you can walk everywhere easily. I am definitely coming back here and I totally recommend it if you are looking for a place to stay in Hagi.

JapanThe friendliness of the host was amazing. He also gave some recommendations about nearby places that I could visit as well as some specialty dishes for some places. Would love to stay there again next time when I return to Hagi and explore more the places nearby.

GermanyI would recommend to bring earplugs for the night as the walls are quite thin.
Very friendly owner, guests, and neighbours. Feels more like visiting a friend than staying at a guesthouse. Beautiful house and perfect location (very close to the beach).

JapanLocation was a bit further from the station and I was not expecting such a long walk. The house is also a bit difficult to find since there is no marking about the name of the house.
Location was a bit far from the station. But overall it was pretty good since it is so close to the beach.

JapanThe only thing that was trouble was the squeaky bank bed whose noise was bad enough, even if you put up with other people's snoring 😴
The owner is a very kind person and easy to hold conversation on whatever subject that is relevant to the trip. This makes this place such a gathering place that people stick around for many days and end up being friends. Facilities are minimum but you don't expect much for what you pay.

JapanIt was pretty noisy and you could hear everything from the next rooms, so I recommend bringing ear plugs. Far from Hagi station and a bit hard to find at first.
The atmosphere was really great, and the owner was super friendly. Close to the beach, the castle and the old town, as well as to the merchant arcade.

ItalyI've travelled around 81 countries and this is the most beautiful place I've ever stayed in. A real Japanese traditional home, so tastefully decorated, every single detail is just incredible, I spent hours contemplating the house. Clean, spacious, warm, equipped with everything you can possibly need, wonderful atmosphere, lovely host, in the historical heart of magical Hagi, seconds away from the sea, we watched gorgeous sunsets. Had my best sleep on the super comfy futon, the heated blankets are such treat. Tea, coffee, great shower, charming garden, I could go on forever, it was always my dream to stay in a place like this.

JapanThis is a great place for those that want to experience traditional Japan and meet other travelers. Very friendly owner, great atmosphere of the old Japanese house/kominka - but that also means that it is rather cold and the walls very thin. The location is great for sightseeing, very close to the beach and the ruins of the castle.

JapanThe walls are a bit thin due to some being made of traditional paper sliding doors, so may be a problem if you are a very light sleeper. Also, the toilet room is very very narrow.
Extremely friendly, laid-back, and hospitable host family with lots of children running around the place, adding a very local atmosphere to the guesthouse. The guesthouse itself is located just a few minutes walk from a beach with a great view of the sunset. It's very easy to socialize with fellow guests and the host as well as almost all the rooms are interconnected, with people sitting in the common area most of the time.

FranceOther guests were having loud conversations in common area until early morning and it was hard to sleep because of the noise ( thin paper or wood walls....) . Don't forget to bring earplugs!
Very charming traditional japanese house. Owner is super nice and chill and makes you feel at home right away! Location is wonderful, just by the beach and the old castle town. Bed was clean and confortable as well.

JapanIt was all good, nothing to complain👌🏼Just be aware that you’ll hear most of the sounds from the house because the guesthouse is in a traditional wooden building which has thin walls between the rooms.
I liked the hippie vibe at the place, because it is managed by Santa - a young Japanese artist who makes beautiful mandalas! There is a living room where you can socialize with other guests and a kitchen with all you need for cooking. Since I’m doing research on preservation of the historic districts, Santa was very helpful in showing me at evening the preservation area near the guesthouse and letting me know where to go in the morning. The dorm room is very small with 2 two-story beds in them, just a place to sleep. I was alone in my dorm so it was good:)

AustraliaThere is no key. Maybe there is good and bad but you can freely enter go the house and room 24h. Too crowded with 3 bunk beds in one room. There's nothing around here. Winter is a short day here too and cold at night, so you must have planned or prepared for dinner.
Nice atmosphere and old traditional Japanese house. There is a kotatsu, which is a heating table for winter. It makes me melt. I am Japanese, so reminded me when I visited my grandparent's house. It'ss nostalgic.
