It was super clean, convenient and comfortable place. If I could visit Aso again, will definitely live here.

There was only cold water at the sinks

Cozy common area with kotatsu, fireplace and Christmas tree--very nice during the winter time. They also gave us a discounted ticket for the onsen nearby

The room was spacious for a dormitory type, we were very comfortable during our stay. The room and the whole place feels cozy and felt like you're actually in your own home. It's a wonderful place to stay in Aso which is conveniently located near the station and the place is very clean as well. The staff were great and helpful too! I would stay there again of I ever come back to Aso.

Extremely spacious neat clean beautiful and cozy house with a super equipped kitchen and perfect public space. Location is just right near the station and perfect public bath ! Beds are wide and comfy , great value of money and great view from the room. Perfect stay for groups of friends or for couples

The host were just miserable people. Especially the man. They were very unhelpful when I messaged them via the app prior to arrival and offered to cancel for free, rather than answer my simple question. Once I arrived, there was no welcome. The front door is locked, so you have to ring the bell to get in. The owner can to unlock the door, then walked away without a greeting. After I came in and removed my shoes, I entered the house through the already open genkan door and left it the way I found it. The man was very rude to me about leave the door open, although that is the way I left it. If he greeted me and was there to tell me, it would not have happened. Very rude. Later that night around 2100 while I was sleeping, he came in the dorm and turned the lights on and talked loudly to check in a new guest. I was disrespected by them multiple times.

This is a very nice house. It is clean. The kitchen is very nice and has everything you could need. There is a covered bike parking area and a safe place to keep your large bags while you’re there.

The owners did not smile and there were too many rules.

Extremely clean and well run hostel but don't expect a friendly welcome. This hostel is run by strict rules which for me gave me bad vibes. Don't expect to be let in before 4pm However they have an excellent outdoor room where you can leave your luggage with small lockers (20Y) to put your valuables in. Shower tap has to be nudged every 5 seconds for water to flow. Owners did not smile however were helpful when asked.

The owners are really strict with rules , a list of rules are presented checking in ! The really treat guest as a child ( 42 y old ) , can’t talk in room , close door, now shoos , if you socialize a bit roommate they will come checking ( ssss) a backpack place is for socializing and when you are busy in day not always the time to go to social are . Just sometimes is the situation different and you have a interesting talk with a room mate ( only 2 people in room ) wasnt feeling comfortable because of that . But worst when checking in before time I wasn’t welcome . Had to urgent go lady room . Wasn’t aloud entering the hostel , they are cleaning and loosing time . That why we had discussion . I wanted to leave my bag in the hotel , but only option was a room that can be entered from outside without lock . He offered me because of situation a cancellation I didn’t want because no other hotels in are that are affordable . Also when I ask day before if they had a room I can have a private really important phone call , the owner also offer me again a new room because they didn’t have that I needed a private room for that . Hope they understand that I want feeling comfortable. The woman , I thing did her best to make the best of the situation we had afterwords a nise talk and offered me the balcony for the call but her husband didn’t look anymore at me . I never had this situation in my life because Japan hostels in my experience are always really helpful . I know they have strict rules , but this was a bit to much in my opinion . If this wasn’t the situation I would give them a number between 8-10 . I am a friendly forgiven person .

I actually would give it a 8-10 if it wasn’t the situation I was in with the owner . All is clean All is really really really organized ( almost to much ) all area are clean . Location is central for mountain visit bus less then 5min walk and station . But I wasn’t feeling welcome unfortunately . It could be a perfect stay unfortunately.

They didnt mention that checkin after 10 was strictly prohibited. I had some issues in Kumamoto, which made it so I arrived at 22:20. I had to spend the night outside sleeping on a park bench. This means of course that I cannot really give a propper review of the hostel, however something as important as that should be listed in the description of bookingcom or wherever.

An affordable option to spend the night in aso

The staff was inhospitable. The worst in all my travelling in Japan. Arrived before check in time and was refused to use the toilets. Was told to use the toilet in the train station. In the evening I requested to make a phone call to confirm my stay for the next day and was refused as well. Caused me some trouble and wasted me a lot of time. Needless yo say they do not permit to stay at the common room after checkout. Little things that make a BIG difference. Hence, as a backpacker, I don't feel it is a place for backpackers.

It is indeed clean and tidy and close to the train/bus station.

the dormitories don’t have doors at all. I guess they didn’t have the room to add them, but I don’t see the point of a female dormitory if the only thing separating said dormitory is a curtain. the privacy of the beds could be better, just adding a curtain to the bed would be much better, it doesn’t take much effort and would be such an improvement. It was freezing at night, and i couldn’t turn on the AC…

The member of staff was moody and not very understanding. travelling Japan is very difficult for foreigners who don't speak Japanese, so it was a challenge to find the place. I was threatened with if I am not there by a certain time, I will be left out in the cold and my money will be taken. I find this shocking and completely unacceptable. Even when I arrived on time, I was met by a moody member of staff who seemed disappointed I had made it. Having stayed in dozens of hostels in dozens of different countries, I was shocked at the owner's attitude. The next day, I wasn't even allowed to have a cup of coffee (which was included in the price), despite checking out earlier than I was allowed to. He just wanted to get rid of me and kick me out, and didn't even offer me luggage storage or anything. Disgraceful. Advice to owner: Leave a note with some instructions on it for guests arriving late due to no fault of their own. Text the security code so at least your guest isn't stuck outside in the middle of winter, out of pocket with potentially nowhere to go! And try and be a bit more friendly.

The hostel itself is very well kept, clean and full of great facilities.

I’m not sure the hostel staff seemed distant or disappointed, they don’t like interacting much and I prefer jolly people so it’s a thing that didn’t cross vibe check for me.

A 10/10 experience everything about the base was just perfect location cleanliness bathroom laundry washroom good smell through the place extra cushion for comfort and what not!
