How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

You had to pay extra for use of the fitness centre

Some of the decor is well used and worn, needs replacing or refreshing, eg shower curtains need to be updated with screens, carpet was stained and scuffed, bedside tables show scratches and heat marks.
Great location at the railway station, able to drop off and leave luggage while touring and then jump straight on the train. It’s a busy, well used hotel. Nice contemporary decor, but some of it shows signs of wear and overuse. Breakfast was buffet style but better than expected, especially great coffee and toast, with good cooked options too. Efficient staff and great advice from concierge for getting around. I liked this place, it was a great stay and good value.

Long walks to elevators. No coffee or tea in the lobby.

Room is a little too dry during the AC unit, but you need to open it for hot weather! Wish hotel can have humidifier
The all staff are super nice and friendly, we were be settled in very far away room from elevator, we had 2 toddlers, it was very difficult for us to move everyday, so we were asking to change if possible, they did for us very soon to switch.

Maybe the addition of a coin operated laundry service might be an added bonus as the nearest one is about a 15 minute walk
Location is excellent as it is right in the Kyoto station complex and the central gates . The breakfast buffet is very varied and you will be spoilt for choice .

Although it’s above the train station, it’s actually not all that convenient to get to Gion. Also, the lounge bar closed at 8pm and I had to pay to use the pool.
Spacious room and quiet, with great pool and sauna.

Windows don't open, no fresh air. Concierge desk is nice, and helpful for dinner, but unlike most hotels (a) it closes at 5, just when you need help with dinner and (b) it's not a desk, you have to stand to talk to them, and while waiting too. They also sent us to the wrong station for one sight (a temple outside Nara). These are all minor.
Location is great, at the station which is also a bus hub. Good breakfast, sometimes there is a short line to enter. Rooms are nice; we were overlooking the shinkanzen tracks which was cool (but no balcony).

Pillows could have been better, but they are pretty ordinary by western standards all over Japan - just a cultural difference.

Surrounding area is BUSY but so is most of Kyoto.
Wife was ill; Concierge was contacted from Tokyo.. Upgraded room, expedited check-in was waiting. Concierge found appropriate English speaking Doctor near hotel and facilitated transport. What a blessing. Station is an attractive venue in its self. Beautiful and interesting Buddhist Temple 2 blocks away. Easy transport options (train, subway, bus, or taxi from just outside hotel. Included breakfast was very nice. Lots of restaurants nearby.

Hotel looks modern but was actually built in 1999. Some areas begining to look a little tired, especially the carpets in corridors. The only bar was expensive and very dark and lacked any atmosphere.
Great location attached to Kyoto Station in south central Kyoto. Easy to use JR Rail or Bullet Train. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was a little old fashioned, but very confortable on 15th floor.

The room options are a bit strange. When booking I could only select a choice that would be given upon check in.
