Little out of the way of the busiest part of town but still less than 5 mins from most major attractions. Dated but extremely well taken care of. English speaking staff. Great Japanese style breakfast.

The room was a bit hot. I turned the air ventilation to "high" but still I woke up at midnight due to poor ventilation of the room. It would be great if they could improve the air ventilation. It would also be better if the room could have a humidifier. A bit too dry at night. It has public bath only instead of an onsen, I guess some people may have concern but I won't complaint given the price it charges.

Great location at Arashiyama. The room is spacey enough, a bit dated of course but well-maintained and managed. The public bath is clean and spacious, which is a plus for me. Meals were delicious, refreshing, and traditionally Japanese. Staffs were friendly, courteous and helpful, provided great services. I am unable to eat any raw fish/seafood (i.e. sashimi) due to my health condition, the hotel staffs and the chef had arranged meals for me accordingly, I was really thankful.

I stay for 2 nights. The dinner is more or less the same for two nights. If the hotel can change dinner menu slight every dinner, the customer will feel better.

Our bathroom smelled SLIGHTLY of sewage.

Convenient to shopping, bridge, bamboo forest rickshaw. Beautiful grounds, and view of river from restaurant, comfortable lobby to meet up or relax. Liked the shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and air/ clothes freshner. Appreciated the many outlets on desk and bed. Staff were all very pleasant, polite, and helpful. We got a great tip to go to Sushi Iso, she made the reservation, and gave great directions. Check-in and check-out were very easy.

I booked for my daughter's birthday as she is in Kyoto and i am in New Zealand. It was impossible to pre-book dinner online or arrange payment. It was very frustrating as my emails would not go through. There was no way to communicate.

It’s a little old but well-maintained

The staffs are very friendly! A lovely lady served me for my meals and she’s the sweetest person. We exchanged short conversation with my basic Japanese.

The meals are wonderful but not flexible (if part of your accommodation) although I was planning to be in the city, I couldn’t cancel my meal.

It was directly at the river and in a beautiful, very touristy area outside Kyoto. Although it was busy the hotel is on a quiet road & was like a fortress with no noise at all. The onsen was great. The food incredible. The service and setting impeccable.

Even this hotel is a little far from the station, no transportation service, but it’s besides the river and near to the shopping street, has great location for Arashiyama sightseeing. The building was old and small, the window can not be opened, without river view, but there were lovely well-cared Japanese gardens, big common tub, nice bed, so our stay was still comfortable. We had really Lenten breakfast buffet there, the lineup can not be more frugal, but the price is only 2000en so that was acceptable.

The western room was a little tired, and need softer pillows. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. But dinner was rather rushed and seemed pre prepared for Ryokan standard...can be better.

Loved the central location and the very helpful staff who helped with River rafting information and taxi booking. The front staff even spoke perfect English. The onsen was great.
