Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceIn this category there is nothing not to like!
Exceptional service from Bungo, so well maintained, cleaner and more attentive service can only be found in a 5 star hotel.

GermanyOverall there was nothing we disliked. However, one should be aware that futons are harder than usual western-style beds (it did not bother us).
The ryokan Yamamuro is a warm place that can be well summarized by the Japanese "omotenashi" (hospitality and mindfulness). The host is very friendly and helpful, creating an atmosphere which almost feels like one stays at a respected good friend's place. The host waited for our late check-in because of a late train and even made storage of our luggage possible after check-out despite scheduled construction works. Recommendations for sightseeing, nearby restaurants etc. are provided by the host (digitally and direct explanation). We got the experience we were looking for: a traditional Japanese ryokan with good service and clean rooms. Sharing bathrooms is part of this but it did not bother us. There are enough shower rooms and the traditional bath can be blocked with an "Occupied" sign. When we first wanted to enter the bath, it was occupied. The host offered to call us when it becomes free again which worked very well. In the end, we regret that our travel plans did not allow for more then one night staying in Kanazawa. We are looking forward to stays in the future.

AustraliaNothing really! Echoing another review on that it's a simple ryokan and not particularly fancy or luxurious, but I found it welcoming and homey.
Just a short bus ride from the station, a fantastic central location with great accessibility to many of Kanazawa's famous spots within walking distance! The space itself felt cosy, clean and well-maintained, no issues with the room. The staff were very kind and were very thorough in their explanations for recommending surrounding locations, including where to visit at what time. They also kindly allowed me to use their phone to make a booking for a nearby attraction :) rooms are on the second floor and Bungo-san helped to bring my luggage up the stairs.

United KingdomGreat location, close to the Geisha Village, Castle and a 20 minute walk from many bars and restaurants. The ryokan was lovely and traditional, I loved the Yukata's, the onsen which we were able to use privately, the green tea in our rooms and the tatami mats and futon set up. Bungo and his mother were very kind, friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a traditional experience at a reasonable price, then I would recommend this ryokan.

United KingdomNothing. We were sorry to leave.
Bungo and his mum were really helpful and welcoming. Our room was lovely with a view out to a small garden. It was spacious with a separate seating area with sofas as well as a lobby for our luggage. The location was great for the park, fish market and geisha district.

GermanyThe one thing i.would say is that if you are a light sleeper, bring a mask, as the japanese paper window panes don't darken the room that much. But my girlfriend slept wonderfully.
Bungo and his mom were absolutely amazing..very kind and helpful. We loved our stay here and the hot bath before bed after a long day sightseeing was just what we needed to relax.

United KingdomI wasn't a huge fan of sleeping on the futons on the floor but my husband loved it. Glad to have experienced it though.
Wonderful Ryokan experience. Bungo was extremely helpful and explained the best sights in Kanazawa for us to visit. The room was large with a tatami floor and looked onto a beautiful garden. Yukatas were provided for walking around the Ryokan. Clean facilities and some amenities provided. The baths were able to be used by myself and my husband privately. It was about 25 minutes walk from the station and very close to Kanazawa castle gardens.

CanadaThe hosts were very helpful in ensuring our experience was in the hotel and Kanazawa was great. Provided tips and a brief overview of the local hotspots and restaurants. Helped my friend find his lost JR Pass by calling the local station and police box. Even had good English.

SpainI liked everything, the only note would be that the Ryokan was a little cold and humid in the common areas as the heating system (I think - not sure) it is run only in the main rooms and not in the bathroom (I find it quite normal in Japan though, so it is not the Ryokan but it seems like this for everyone).
Generally I don't take a "shared bathroom" option but I decided to give it a try in Japan! I was right: probably Japan is the only place where it makes sense to consider sharing bathroom rooms! This the bathroom were super clean, the products given were top (they had Shiseido for hair and body). You get your own Kimono for moving around too! Super nice experience They also change towel and Kimono each day. Super clean and super characteristic! love it. Staff speak a very good English and they are super nice and ready to help you. Bed were super comfy and we did not have any backpain the day after (we like hard mattress though). Location is perfect: nearby the Fish market and some very good restaurants! In less than 20 minutes you are walking in the park. They also have the luggage shipping service (which is super easy and comfortable to use)

United StatesWe had an amazing stay at this ryokan. Bungo was so kind, he made us feel at home and gave us many helpful tips, he also helped us reserve the ninja temple and a great restaurant for the evening. Our room was spacious and clean, with a cute garden view, and equipped with everything we needed. Overall the place is quiet, beautiful, and comfortable. Conveniently located close to the market and the charming chaya district.

NetherlandsThe room was nice and traditional. A hot bath is available and can be used by couples. The host Bungo helped us book bus tickets for Shirakawago (if you want to go, book in advance) and helped call a taxi for when we left. The building and garden suffered some minor damages from the January 1st earthquake, we hope repairs go well.

United StatesThe only thing I can think of is that the walls are a little thin. There is nothing that can be done about this though since it is a historic traditional building.
There is a reason why the ratings are so high! Very clean facilities, cute and comfortable room, perfect location, Bungo and his mom were very sweet and helpful, Bungo gave great local recommendations, the onsen in the basement was amazing for my sore feet and muscles after a lot of sightseeing! Price was really a bargain. Although bathroom and onsen were shared, I never ran into any problems with not being able to use them when I wanted to.

I was expecting to get a shared room (At least it appeared this way from the images), but I ended up getting a private room which wass so authentic and fantastic! The showers / bathrooms were individual. Although I thought the shared bath was going to be public, it seemed to worj on a one-at-a-time system. The room contained a little table with a tea set as well! Bungo and Yoka were awesome too! So informative and friendly to chat to!
