A beautiful onsen set in a quiet mountain location. The outside onsen was special and overall the property was very clean, welcoming and a joy to stay at. The food was beautifully prepared and served and the staff were wonderful and accommodating.

Shared bath was not informed prior which was a bit of a surprise. I wish there were private bath options.

Onsen beside river and the option for mixed baths so couples can spend time together. I appreciated the onsen clothing provided and it was tattoo friendly. I also loved the options to pick our yukatas and the sizes they provided.

The building we stayed is quite worn out and old but it is well kept and clean. The outdoor onsen is beautiful and we really enjoyed it but there are one 2 bathrooms, which are not well equipped with amenities. We ended up having to go back and showered in our own rooms.

The outdoor onsen is beautiful, and we really enjoyed it. The hotel provided cover-up dresses for the mixed onsen, which was great. We, as a family, enjoyed the onsen together.

The breakfast was a bit of an acquired taste but all of it was lovely to try! Vending machines are a bit pricier than usual ones in Tokyo probably because of location, something to bear in mind if you want a drink. I'm not sure how staying multiple days would be as you are quite isolated.

An incredible experience up in the mountains! We stayed for one night, which for us was the perfect amount to experience the onsen and traditional rooms. The hotel make travel to the remote area easy for people coming by train, and arranging a spot on their free mini bus was easy beforehand. The food was lovely, and the staff were all incredibly kind, explaining how the outside onsen work. My partner is also over 6ft, and there were yukata and slippers that worked for him - he just had to remember to duck :)!

Very polite and nice but they didn’t know much english at the restaurant and couldn’t explain how to eat the food. One waiter just excused himself and ran off. Maybe it’s just my bad back but a bit thicker mattress and pillow would be nice.

The onsen was amazing! Different temperatures to move between and one very warm spot, nice! Beautiful surrounding, like an anime fairytale! Pretty yukatas! Nice room with good view and warm tatami floor! The futon was warm and the blanket super fluffy!! The gift shop clerk was so nice and helpful, helped me to buy the right size yukata and color! Simple explanation from station to shuttlebus by photos and also good detailed explanation of facility at check-in.

This was 1 of the most beautiful places we have stayed. Our room in the old building had the most amazing view. The food and service were great and the Onsens were wow.

Because the place is so old, naviating is very confusing. But it's ok because it was nice exploring the beautiful buildings!

Staff speaks English! They are also very helpful and explained the ins and outs very well (this is our first onsen). We had one person in our party with a lot of food issues and the person via chat was very thorough in seeing what they could make for her. I thought she would have to come with her own food but in the end they created a dinner and breakfast that she could eat AND enjoy!! Awesome. Room was huge! View of the river amazing! I was worried about insulation, but the heater worked surprisingly well.

Our experience was amazing. We absolutely loved everything about our stay wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were wonderful . The view from our corner room was picturesque and going to sleep with the sound of the river and the warmed floor was cozy. Bathing in the baths was therapeutic .The food was what I call clean food, fresh tasty with different unique things to try. Our boys even tried out some new things. Thank you so much . ☺️

Highlights were the spacious rooms overlooking the outdoor hot springs and river, the delicious multi-course traditional Japanese style dinner and breakfast, and the staff who were quick to answer questions leading up to the trip and during our stay. I couldn't believe everything we experienced for such a reasonable price. Be sure to share any dietary restrictions prior to arrival - I can't have dairy and they prepared alternatives that were safe for me :) I have tattoos but, so long as I kept them covered I did not experience any issues. I used towels to cover my back piece. I would happily go for a return visit. Very welcoming to English speaking but did help to know some basic Japanese. Can't recommend this onsen enough!!

To me personally, a lot of the food was a bit bland, but that is of course a question of preference.

The onsen is out of this world… i felt like I was in the movie. Definitely worth visiting. The ryokan was well organized and comfortable. The dining experience was very pleasant. Everything was clean, the staff were super helpful. Not to be missed!

we had to ask for a blanket the second night and they seemed reluctant to give us one. (we were given less bedding than the night prior). also: both nights they said they would make our beds but they never did! no big deal though :-)

the breakfast and dinner were divine! and the soaking was amazing. and the rooms by the river were beautiful.

Great experience with the outdoor onsen and location in the mountains. The staff were great and very service-minded. All guests wear kimono during the whole stay, which makes the experience even more authentic.
