How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It's not really something specific to the hotel itself, but to Groningen, in general: – The overall price for the room is expensive – The same's true for the parking. It would cost you at least 18 euro per night. The closest free spots near IKEA is in 15 walk
I liked staying in City Hotel Groningen: + Friendly hosts + Tidy and cozy + The bed was good (a bit too soft for me) + My room was near the elevator, but it didn't bother me at all, as it was very quiet + Great water pressure in the shower + The room was very warm but there was enough air + No problems with Wi-Fi + Easy access to all the amenities in the old city center + Fast check-in and check-out + Really good breakfast + Nespresso machine in the room 😍

Although the breakfast staff was great, the breakfast itself was way too expensive for what was offered. I know breakfasts in Netherlands are simple and limited, but this was also the most expensive one I've had in a long time. I thought it was €10 each, but it turned out to be €16 (if I remember correctly).
Comfortable, super clean, and nice warm room with everything you could wish for, and with excellent staff everywhere. The location in the city is just perfect.

Stayed twice, first room was cold and air con heater was poor. Room had a fridge. Second room had a radiator which kept the room warm but no fridge so drinks couldn’t be kept cold.
Good location for the city. Free coffee etc in the lobby.

Staff was friendly and very helpful. It seemed that our reservation was “lost” but in the end, everything was fine and we had a very good night sleep.

The price versus what is on offer is very high in my opinion. The room was very small for the price, and the breakfast was also very pricey. Summarized, for what was paid, it had a poor price to quality ratio. High prices are to be expected in cities such as Amsterdam, but in Groningen such rates are absurd.
A good basic stay in a central location. A good breakfast with plenty of options. The room was comfortable and had basic amenities. This felt like a clean, but somewhat unpersonal business hotel.

The basement rooms are dark and dreary. It can also be quite noisy from inside the hotel corridors.

the pillows were nice as cushions but very uncomfortable to sleep on... I had to sleep without a pillow because these were too high and too hard...
the room was clean and had everything necessary, the bed alone without pillows was comfortable...bathroom had all the essentials including a hairdryer and a magnifying makeup mirror which was a bonus! The wifi was very good and so was the breakfast.

Both pillows were too big/thick, I wish one of them was thinner for sleeping (other is fine to prop yourself up and watch TV). TV screen screen was really hard to see from one of the closest single beds... Consider mounting the TV in front of the bed instead of the side wall. Finally the EV charging station required a nuon.nl fob/card: I didn't have one not living in NL, and could therefore not recharge my car in the hotel garage. I could not find that requirement on the booking.com hotel information, that may have allowed me to get that fob ahead of the trip or pick a different hotel.
Very nice central location, with restaurant terrasses litterally just outside the hotel door. Nice to have free coffee/capucino at all time in the hotel,
