  • “Although quite far away from the centre/transport for day trips, Old Bells has the potential to be the best place around but I'm not sure if the new owners/managers are fully commited to make it work. They took over 4 months before my stay but there was little effort (apart from a Swiss volunteer) to clear out piles of unused furniture and layers of dust everywhere or to properly organise fridges, get more things for cooking and sockets in rooms, improve wi-fi range, etc. Still, I would recommend it based on the facilities on offer (pool, bar, terrace with sunset views, massive garden) and especially the very sociable atmosphere but certainly not for dorm-comfort or sanitary conditions.”

  • Casa 1800 Cerro Verde Review score: 8

“The location is amazing and since I'm a birder, being able to get up super early and have the park pretty much to myself was great. The room was huge (overkill really) and I liked my back patio. The main dining area was pretty spectacular.”

“A very nice hotel at the outskirts of Santa Ana with a great pool, comfy rooms and a great breakfast. We stayed just for one night, but enjoyed our stay fully. The staff very friendly and helpful as well.”

  • Hostal Casa Verde Review score: 10

“What a lovely hostel!!!! The people are so friendly and the food is great. I had a private room and loved how it clean it was (finally a room WITHOUT cockroaches) and a hot shower. Hammocks, a small pool, roof terrace, makes you want to hang out all day and have some chill time. I do want to mention that if you walk the wrong way there are a lot of drunks trying to get your attention. So just keep the direction of the cathedral 😊 It was nice to meet other travellers and take a trip to the volcano together. 100% recommend Casa Verde.”

  • Casa Central de Santa Ana Review score: 8

“The location is great, only a couple of blocks to the Parque Libertad but very quiet. Our room was very basic but large and clean. Wifi is excellent, air conditioning works well as was very nice to have. The shower has hot water, but the bathroom is small and there are no shelves put anything. It was clean, but very old and could use a really deep clean. Remote check-in worked well. There's an on-line Visa payment link, but we asked to pay cash and the owner agreed. I'd rather use Booking to pay with Visa as it is trustworthy. The owner is very helpful and responds quickly to questions.”
