  • Daichan Farm Guest House Review score: 10

“An amazing property and host in the countryside of Japan. Comfortable, clean and spacious, a great place for a night or 2 or 3 to escape the cities. Take some nice walks, visit the winery and apple Onsen. The owner was lovely and so helpful, she made us feel like being at home. Thank you!”

“I spent one night here and would have loved to stay longer. Hide-san created a little paradise in his house. As a solo traveller or couple, if you are looking for a social/local experience with long nights of talking and sharing with the other guests, this is the perfect place. Home-cooked dinner based on donation was the best food I've had in Japan so far.”

“Near gondola no.1 and 3, very close.”

“The hosts were more than friendly. The beds are comfortable and the room is clean. The floor heating in the rooms provides warmth without decreasing humidity. The most comfortable stay I had during my ski trip. The hosts will drop off and pick up guests at the lifts so you can enjoy the Zao mountain. Not much around the location so be sure to eat before returning to the hostel.”

  • CASA DE YOSHi 一棟貸し Review score: 10

“Cozy house with lots of wonderful places to curl up to read a book or play games with friends. Very family friendly. The host was very responsive to all our needs. There is an amazing supermarket close by so you don't need to cook but there are also good supplies for cooking your own meal. TIP 1: To lock the door, pull the rear panel towards you so the lock can engage. TIP 2: To get the fire going 1. Add pellets in the back compartment 2. Click the black button which is below a white cylinder (it'll compress the cylinder) 3. Light a pelletman firestarter (found in the brown box) and place it in the front area (just behind the glass) 4. Turn on the machine (it will blow air to keep the flame ignored)”

“Great location, just 1 min walk to the cable car station and 30s walk to ski-rental shop. The hotel provided the rental discount coupon, only 2500 yen per day!”

  • 大聖坊 Daishobo Review score: 9

“The host was really nice, the food was delicious, the room very spacious, and last but not least we had the chance to assist to the morning prayer in the lodge. A very unique experience. The lodge is also very close to the 5-story pagoda and the stairs to the Dewa Sanzan temple.”

“Bedclothes smelled fresh and clean. We slept reasonably well. A bit marmite : either you don't mind a bit of grubbiness ( apart from bedclothes) and like the good value or it feels too depressing.”
