Dirty stained Sheets, Dirty Old Headboard,Hair on the headboard, Super Hot and Uncomfortable, Bed felt like we were sleeping on a box spring, Ac unit sounded like a truck driving through the room, broken safe..stay away..I guess you get what you pay for!!

They over charged me what I confirmed on booking.com $300 CDN for 3 nights, They charged me $306. USD for 3 nights. They over pre authed my credit card by nearly $500. Which ruined our trip for my daughters 25th birthday. We saved for this trip and were so excited to see this art boutique hotel. What a dump and to be fraudulently overcharged on top of it. Checked out on March 1st and still causing unbelievable stress trying to clear this up between booking.com and the property. The responsibility of making this right is between booking.com and the Moderne. I'm left explaining over and over and just getting the run around. I've been booking reservations with Booking.com for years. I go to NYC often and have never been treated like this nor had such a hideous experience with the condition of the room. They've definitely not helped me make a great memory for my daughters birthday. The room was horrific. Filthy walls, cracking and peeling headboards. The beds were like sleeping on a pull out sofa. The pillows were gross and obviously years old. ALL of the pictures below are from the room. The young man who checked us in was very sweet. He was very nervous, he obviously knew what we were getting ourselves into and has suffered many complaints about the condition of the rooms. Door man also very pleasant. The woman at the desk in the morning just looked right through me when I tried to explain the situation. No care or empathy at all. She also must be worn down by all of the complaints.

The AC in the unit was not functioning properly. I woke up to a sweltering 83F. It was impossible to sleep. I made certain the thermostat was set properly and notified the facilities person. But by the time it could be addressed I had to leave.

The room was 76 degrees. We couldn't sleep, so we changed the thermostat from heat to cool. An hour later, the temperature was 83. Turned the thermostat off completely, but the room never cooled down. We got no sleep. If you can't sleep in your hotel room, nothing else matters. We'll never go back again.

When we arrived our room had been given to someone who extended their stay. We were given no notice and when arrived were given little information but told very sheepishly that our room was gone but there was a room in their sister hotel. And not to worry the price would be the same. We were then asked to sign a paper to get the rate without confirming if the hotel was similar or better quality etc. The hotel was close by but after checking prices it turns out we were charged more than if we’d make the booking that day. It could easily have ruined our long awaited one night stay in NY but I was determined not to let it. After a lot of promises we left the hotel not knowing what rate we would be charged but finally we got some money returned for the inconvenience. I was really shocked at the poor service and how this was all dealt with.

If I had to pick anything I would say having a coffee/ tea machine in the room would have been nice additional touch. Also the carpet in the rooms themselves could do with a deep clean but honestly aside from that I can’t fault the hotel whatsoever.

Easy to locate- FANTASTIC location (10 minute walk to Times Square) Gorgeous modern lobby. All staff members were lovely & beyond helpful, no request was too much. They always greeted me with a smile & polite conversation. The daily housekeeping was great too, especially as I detest making my bed when on vacation. The hotel itself felt really safe too especially as a solo female traveler.

I didn't like everything. All the photos showing on the website must have been taken when it was newly built!

There was nothing to like. Right from the start, the building is NOT what they show on the photo! Everything is old! Headboard was pealing, the smell in the room was stale. The only thing that was showing the same in the photo is the wallpaper. There were cochcroaches in the bathroom in the first room then moved to another - didn't see anymore crawlies so that was an improvement. but towels smells stale too. Was very disappointed.

The shower was not working properly, after 3 minutes the water would become burning hot and another 3 min after it would return to the normal temperature and this will repeat in a loop until the shower was off. Also we got billed a higher amount of money than what was agreed on booking and after several rounds of talks with support (and despite of providing proof for the overcharge) the issue was not resolved. This is very disappointing, because otherwise our experience with the Moderne hôtel was very good.

The property was clean and very well located. The staff was polite and friendly.

The lounge could be a bit warmer and offer a coffee machine so we could stay a bit more to work there. But the table is grand and the seats comfortable.

Best NYer hotel so far! The room was super quiet near the Park, with mid-century design furniture. Excellent team, it was enjoyable on every step of our journey.

Overall this is one of the best hotels I stayed in NYC and nothing to complain about.
