Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThere are no restaurants within walking distance. The neighborhood did not feel safe for us, although we were advised that it was safe to walk during the day.
The property and staff are extraordinary. It has an oasis feel to it.

This place is a real gem. A quiet and beautiful oasis in a busy city. Our rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable. Conway and his lovely team were warm, welcoming and incredibly helpful. Conway offered advice on the city and our onward journey, during and before our stay. Breakfast was delicious with a range of choices. We left our Ipad charger in our room when we left. Conway contacted us to let us know and arranged to have it sent on to us. I highly recommend this place.

SpainI only had one night in Johannesburg, my first ever in South Africa. I’m so incredibly happy I stayed at Lucky Bean. I have traveled quite a bit in my life, all over the world, but never experienced such hospitality before. Before, during and after my stay at Lucky bean guest house Conway and Natasha were making sure I was looked after, safe and happy. They arranged airport pickup (Derick the driver was great!) as well as restaurant reservation (I arrived late after canceled flights etc) as well as an Uber getting back to the guest house. I felt completely spoilt. The staff at Licky bean were lovely as well and I could tell they really enjoy their workplace. Great vibes and generous breakfast. I couldn’t recommend a place more. Next time I’m back in Jburg there’s no chance I would stay anywhere else.

Conway and Natalie were excellent hosts and obviously love and want to share Johannesburg with their guests. The property is beautiful and safe, in a very nice and quiet area. The breakfasts provided were excellent, and Conway or Natalie was there to answer questions, if needed. There is a large and beautiful pool.. Melville is a nice neighborhood with walkable streets and minimal traffic, and there are several nice restaurants we ate at. There is a shopping center that we walked to that had a laundry, ATM, grocery, and pharmacy. Ubers were never more than a couple of minutes away, and we used them to go to the Apartheid Museum and the Rosebank Sunday African Crafts Market.

RussiaThe area of Johannesburg has electricity problems now and then, but there's a generator in the guestouse, and wifi was always available, as well as the lights.
Lucky Bean Guesthouse is what you need to relax after a long flight or an exhausting journey. Our room was quiet, clean and had everything we needed - bath, shower, safe, fridge, kettle and tea and coffee. There are European sockets in the rooms, so charging our phones was easy. There are only a few rooms in the property, and guests share a lovely swimming-pool with sunbeds and a dining room. Breakfast included fruit, cereal, yoghurt, toast, jam with tea and coffee and a variety of egg dishes made especially for us. The owner, Conway, was really friendly and helpful, he consulted us on the shopping, wine, local cafes and other things. It was such a pleasure to talk to him and discuss everything we needed. The area of Melville is safe in comparison to downtown Johannesburg. It's green, quiet and has some very nice restaurants and cafes. Getting around by Uber is cheap and convenient. We spent 2 days on the property and enjoyed the peace and quiet of its garden. Thank you so much, Conway, for making us feel at home :)))

United KingdomThe 'usual' departure check out time is 10am (a little on the early side). However, when I asked for a slight extension it was accommodated immediately and without fuss. Amazing.
Fantastic ambiance; a lovely oasis - it felt like 'home away from home'. Made to feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. The hosts Natasha and Conway are warm, friendly and knowledgable. Helped me organise trips with fantastic guides, making our stay an unbelievably seamless one.
