Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe cleanliness in the carpeted parts of the room were kind of gross. You can tell the hotel needs a bit of a makeover and is a bit old. Other than the carpets everything else was good though.
It was a traditional room and cozy in general. The access to the onsen was really convenient and very relaxing. It was a very peaceful stay and even had the sound of frogs at night.

United States1. The cooling system could not be regulated. We were hot even in April. There was just a fan to blow the air around. 2. The room needed a deeper cleaning. The bathtub had a shower curtain with a blood stain on it. Rather unappetizing. The main water tap had an unstoppable drip. 3. By the look of things, the hotel had seemingly not been redecorated or painted for a rather long time but furnishings were generally 'passable.' We had some torn paper screens in our room and dingy walls-- a little gloomy overall. However, there was a nice hand-painted modern kakejuku, featuring a Basho poem, in the room's alcove, a nice feature. 4. We ate breakfast in the almost empty Samurai restaurant on the second floor. The food was good and plentiful. There was a nice outlook onto a disused patio. There were stairs that led down, it seems, to a dirty old abandoned in-ground swimming pool. It is an eyesore that should best be removed, so that the flora and fauna can be reestablished. 5. There is a steep walk up to the hotel along the property's driveway. Not a problem for us but possibly for some older people without cars. The bus stop is not far away and there are 2 walkable convenience stores nearby (to the left at the bottom of the driveway). One can walk to Suizenji temple in about 20 minutes. One cannot walk to town. We took a taxi to the hotel as we had some larger luggage to transport. 6. The room required that the room key be inserted into a slot just inside the door in order to keep *any* of the lights on. Rather inconvenient but tolerable and economic for the hotel. 7. There is no daily servicing/cleaning of the room. 8. There is an adequate but old and small color TV that pulled in some local channels. 9. The lobby was large and had a self-service store but was dimly lit.
The view from the window was extraordinary as was the birdsong--orioles and bushwarblers singing their hearts out. The windows could be opened a few inches, fortunate since there was no cooling possible from the air system while we were using the room in April. The room was large enough for four, so the two of us had plenty of space to move around. But sleeping is Japanese style, on the floor, on not so thick mats. I double stacked ours and this was entirely adequate. Daily, new towels were left outside our door and left; no one seems to have come in. The beds were already made when we arrived and not serviced daily. There were elevators, fortunately. There were few other guests; the hotel was large and western style on the outside, built from concrete. There seem to be few western rooms.

SingaporeThe room was a little old.
Accessible via local sight-seeing bus. Walking around was a breeze to see the neighborhood and also nearby attractions like the Bamboo Forest. Welcia at the train station was very big and very good service. My daughter was unwell and the recommended medicine was immediately effective.

SingaporeMaybe due to covid, most of the facilities were shut down - no meal/restaurant, massage therapy shop closed. The male hot bath place did not have any amenities except comb. (Note : Lady hot bath has most of amenities including hair improvement tonic.... a plus plus 😄)
Despite the room being a bit outdated, it's clean & very spacious. We had 2 tatami rooms for each couple. Each room can stay 4 or more person. The mountains view & traditional Japanese houses from our balcony were amazing. Shuzenji is a small rural area/town in Izu, but we were luck one of staff could speak Mandarin, which is of great help (we can speak only English or Mandarin).

JapanThis hotel hasn't been updated for a very long time. Everything feels tired. The room keys are still keys! And you have to lock the door when you leave. The room was spacious but very sparse, and like the rest of the hotel, very tired. Only the absolute minimum is provided. Shampoo and Conditioner were not provided in the onsen, but had to obtained in packets from the lobby which is inconvenient and not ecological. There was no lighting on the stairs to the parking which was dangerous in the rain.
The breakfast was well appointed and mostly fresh. Parking was easy to access. The outdoor onsen was very nice.

AustraliaThe included breakfasts and dinner were delicious. Our first breakfast, and both evening meals, were served to our table. Our second breakfast, on a Saturday, was buffet-style, with Japanese and European options available. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We each took two Onsen baths - the facilities were spacious, relaxing, and with lovely body wash and shampoo. The hotel is very well located to town attractions, and is a very short walk from a bus stop, which connects to the train station.

United StatesThe walls were a bit thin. The comforter was a little too warm (woke up sweating). The temperature control on the toilet didn’t work, so it squirted cold water.
Beautiful rotemburo. Excellent, artistically prepared kaiseki dinner. Spacious 12-mat tatami room and a sitting area with western-style chairs if you don’t like sitting on a zabuton. An indoor staircase. Very good green tea.
