Mayra, in particular was fabulous and connected us with a private guide to show us cool spots that could have only been accessed with someone who was knowledgable of the area. The food was delicious, and they even provided delicious snacks and drinks on their beautiful rooftop terrace - which is the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring the city. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful as well, bright and muted hues that compliment the rich bright colors of the town. I cannot say enough about Hotel Azul, my husband and I had a lovely time. The food and service in the restaurant is good (which is more the norm than the exception in Oaxaca), with the plus that you can take breakfast in a terrace overlooking the green and nicely landscaped El Llano park, just oposite the hotel. We always found a bunch of locals visiting the hotel restaurant (especially for breakfast) which is a good quality indicator for me. What should be underscored about the restaurant is that the service (unlike other local places) is swift. You get sophisticated and delicious dishes served in a few minutes! I guess they are very well organized. There is another upper terrace with a swing and great views over the park. The bed in our room was comfy and firm, ideal to hibernate after a day of heavy walking. Both the room and common areas are pristine, the central garden is very well kept. What we like the most of this hotel is its character. The main building dates from the late 19th century, an old belle époque house very close (walking distance) to the charming attractions of Oaxaca's historical district. Another perk is free parking, if you happen to be renting a car.”

We found a fascinating local Church behind the Hotel where there was some sort of celebration and communal meal every night and a really handy Ciabatta cafe which was handy for tasty, cheap suppers. We loved this Hotel and would definitely come back.”

“A majority of the rooms were facing the wonderful shady courtyard garden (make sure to get one of those, but none are streetside). The roof terrace was cozy and sunny and provided a great panaroama of the New Year's fireworks all throughout the valley. They offer a light continential breakfast (mainly fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli and coffee). The streets around felt very safe and easy walking distance so many great reataurants.we would stay here again!”
