“IT'S OUR FIRST EXPERIENCE USING A GUEST HOUSE LIKE THIS. SO COZY. THE OWNER VERY STRICT ABOUT NIGHT TIME; WHICH IS GOOD.”

“Spent one night in Hakuba (in May, so off season). I was welcomed by very kind host who showed me around. From the very beginning I felt relaxed and "at home". The facility is not very modern, but it has its style and it's not fake! It's almost like Obergurgl in Austria which gives a bit of magic to your travel through Japan. If I was to come to Hakuba for skiing I would absolutely went for Pension Obergurgl!”

  • “My wife and I spent 2 nights here as we explored the surrounding mountains - we hiked up to Enzanso hut and Mt. Tsubakuro. The owner was extremely helpful with our planning as she helped us with the rental equipment that we needed for the climb (we could have it delivered to the guest house a few days in advance). She also informed us of the current weather/snow conditions on the mountain...thank you so much again for this, we really appreciated it!! Otherwise the guest house is very nice, clean and brand new. We saw there is a yoga studio in the same facility - but I suppose that is aimed more for local/Japanese visitors - it looked really nice though.”

  • Bellscabin Guesthouse Review score: 8

“Nice guesthouse, not far from the woods, in a quiet neighbourhood and surrounded by trees. Its the perfect place to stay for birdwatchers, backpackers, and people who look for a simple and affordable but nice place to sleep in Karuizawa. In the evening, we could spend time in the living room and eat our picnics there, which was very convenient. There was also a fridge we could use. The owner was very friendly. The room was small as often in Japan, the common bathroom areas were clean so we have nothing to complain about. The room decor is very simple and minimal, it reminded me of student flatsharing when I had roommates and was younger, which is totally okay.”

  • AIBIYA Review score: 9

“It is set about a 10’ walk (slight uphill) from Yudanaka train station, and is a convenient base for visiting the snow monkeys, and onsens. Inspite of it being an old wooden house, it was calm and quiet; and I had most peaceful nights. The hosts were very caring and gave me good tips on places to visit.”

  • “Our stay at Hoshizora no Akari was the most wonderful part of our Japanese trip. Our host is extremely attentive, generous, and welcoming; he knows how to make you feel comfortable in his guesthouse. The rooms are simple but very pleasant, the private onsen is a dream, and the location of the place is ideal for staying in the region and going on beautiful hikes. We highly recommend it! Thank you again for everything.”

“The staff are very friendly and it was clean and comfortable stay. Even its minimum 10 min walk from highlights, still I would definitely come back again. You can rent bike for 300 yen for whole day. I would recommend it ☺️”

  • “The host were extraordinary friendly. My son did not want to leave 😁 they waited up late as our car broke down and were so nice 😊”

“A beautiful and unique location. Masahiro san is a welcoming host and a superb chef with well prepared dinner and breakfast. He is very accommodating.”

  • B&B Hotel Hyochoan Review score: 10

“Very friendly hosts, Akayko san went above and beyond to help us with dinner and sight seeing options around Karuizawa, include Saku city for some shopping options. Surroundings are peaceful, comfortable, warm and very clean. Thoughtful with little snacks and tea placed in the room daily too. Breakfast was definitely the highlight, very thoughtfully planned and made by Akayo san each morning, there were probably about 10 different items in the meal, she even accommodated a vegetarian in our family too. Thank you Ayala san and family for your kind hospitality!”
