Having rung ahead to explain we were having severe traffic delays, we were asked to give the key holder a call when we were 20 mins away, when we arrived out of hours) we were greeted with a friendly and pleasant smile, guided to our parking space, and taken throughout the building to the apartment with all of the security and access considerations explained. In the apartment we were shown all the facilities given an emergency contact number and a rough idea of expected departure was discussed, prior to the host leaving us for the evening we had some of the local amenities pointed out, for which we were most grateful for at that time of night and then host departed leaving us with pleasant greetings from Portsmouth and wishing us a good stay.

Beautiful location, we checked in and took a walk around the lake. Car parking is plentiful even when very busy. We were in town for a funeral, and my family had checked into another hotel, Bayliss House, which turned out to be awful. Fortunately, Stoke Place had another couple of rooms available and was very accommodating about a last-minute booking. Thank you, Volfer. They also ensured that we could have breakfast in a room that my mother could access easily as she has mobility issues. The property is beautiful, and the staff are delightful.

The apartment is a nice setup, the kitchen is well equipped, the living room is comfortable, the location is excellent in its proximity to the town.

The bed is unacceptable. The mattress had no support at all. The bed creaked from the moment we got in. I eventually gave up trying to sleep in the bed as every time I or my partner moved, the creaking of the bed woke up the other. I ended up sleeping on the sofa which is not long enough for that purpose.

The bathroom was lovely with novelty toilet programming. Obviously view from room was amazing as to be experienced once in a lifetime.

Hotel starts on 35th floor. Limited space to sit somewhere comfortably and watch world below without having to buy a drink if you arrive before check in time. Had to chase up getting room key after the allocated 4 pm check in time. Got luggage an hour after getting in room trying to locate it. Lack of VIP Lounge area dependent on pricing of room in comparison to one other 5* that I know of. Location only on Northern Line on underground route and felt like an end of road (terminal) stop. Work being carried out externally and along the road from hotel.
