The breakfast was great. It was buffet style, including the cooked options, with plenty of choices. This is far better than similar hotels we have stayed in which give you a 'cooked breakfast selection' form, and will then bring you a single sausage, one slice of bacon, etc. There was also plenty of pastries, fruit and fresh juices. The staff were extremely polite and very helpful throughout our stay. The location is also good, being a short walk from both the town centre and the lake.

The hotel has a small revolving door, at the top of some steps at the entrance. Unfriendly to those stopping more than a few days with large, heavy suitcases. Room access from elevator also has more stairs, to go up and down. ‘King Double’ room felt tiny and claustrophobic, nothing like pictures on the website. Small, uncomfortable double bed = constantly changing position trying to get comfortable, whilst trying not to fall out. Window view of rooftops, corridors and other rooms in the hotel + no net curtain = no privacy. Bathroom access through a small alcove obstructed by a table and chair (pointless in room of that size). Ended up dragging them next to the bed. Toilet was really, really low, and right next to the door. Didn’t eat in the restaurant due to the daily changing menu. Easier to go to one of the other many nearby places with a fixed menu, so you know what you are getting. A few items from the description that made me laugh after our stay :- View - Of other guests Seating Area – In the walk way, for the bathroom TV – On the wall, in the walk way to the seating area Satellite channels - *cough* Freeview Radio - On the Freeview TV Tea/Coffee maker - Kettle Hairdryer – Yes, and as long as you have 30 minutes or more it will dry your hair….eventually Wardrobe or closet – Behind the door, completely black and not near a single light in the room Upper floors accessible by elevator – and many, many stairs. Toilet paper – Just like you used to have in infant school…much like the toilet.

Breakfast, was great. Self service buffet with juice, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, croissants. Plus a choice of cooked breakfasts to follow including a vegetarian breakfast. The dog particularly liked her Lincolnshire sausage and bowl of water while we enjoyed our breakfast. Coffee machine with the buffet, so hot and endless top-ups as required. Evening menu looked good but our son had made other plans for us. Popular spot with the locals and visitors.

The hotel was having some building work done so the first morning we were wakened before 8am by a reversing concrete lorry but the 2nd day was absolutely fine. The contractors and staff did apologise but it was a special delivery while the weather was dry, but it didn't spoil our stay.

Great location, lovely friendly welcome, manager went above and beyond by waiting for our late arrival to show us into our room. Friendly happy staff waiting on tables, good food and we tried all the beers. Thank you

Only thing was that we only had one towel in the room between two? But this was due to late laundry delivery apparently.

Me and my daughter cycled there as part of our journey to Wales. Wonderful place, very good service and just looked a bit like a Robert Stevenson book. We loved it, recharged our batteries and continued the journey.
