  • HOTEL LASCALA Review score: 10

“Fantastic breakfast to be served in the room”

  • “The location and the details in the room, onsen, the friendly staff and the food was very tasty”

  • Wakatake Review score: 10

“What a lovely stay I had here. I got drunk before dinner and then staggered into the most incredible feast I've ever had. This town lands a large amount of the tuna that comes into Japan, and they had such a variety and skill with it in the restaurant. Incredible sakē, great quality fish, good sized room. A genuine delight.”

  • Hotel Nagisaya Review score: 1

“The surrounding serenity and the outdoor onsen”

  • “It would be impossible, as a tourist, to have a true monastery experience in an overnight stay, but the beautiful monastery and lovely monks gave us an inkling of what being a monk means. Sleeping and eating on the floor is less comfortable but essential for that experience. Beautiful monastery within walking distance of temples and Okunoin cemetery. Well worth staying overnight to appreciate Koyasan more fully.”

  • “So beautiful and serene. Lovely one-night stay. Cute rooms (Japanese / Monk style); quiet place with a reasonable number of guests. Peaceful setting, well maintain. Enjoyed the hot baths. Vegetarian meals (very enjoyable). The Monk spoke a really good English. The morning religious service was a really good experience This was by far my favourite area of my trip around Japan. The area is so calm and relaxed and the temples beatiful.”

  • “Exceptional view, fantastic breakfast and extremely friendly staff despite our very low level Japanese. Rooms appear to have been renovated since some of the pictures posted - very modern yet beautiful, spacious, and comfortable.”

  • “Room was quite the what I expected. It was spacious and a traditional Japanese room. Washrooms were located bit far from the room and they were public baths. Toilets were located separately which were near to my room. Wash basins for face wash were separately located as well. I attended the morning ceremony. Being a Buddhist myself(Theravada sect) it was different from what I have seen and practiced from my childhood. But was all in for a new experience which was what i got there. Mind that all the shops close around or before 05.30 pm so you have to secure your dinner before that.”

  • Kumano Backpackers Review score: 10

“Friendly receptionist, Katsu-san. Free welcome snacks, clean environment, big common room and kitchen, and very good location to Kumano Hongu Taisha”

  • “Perfect location and awesome view from the room and dining area. And the room is quiet despite trains running below the building”
