Opened in 1878, Fujiya Hotel features Meiji Era architecture set in Hakone’s natural beauty.
“Just the good choice of hotel. The building is an historical building very well known for his past guests, emperors, princes etc. The location is excellent for excursions to the Fuji mountain and all the others places. We took the Hakone pass ticket from Shinjuku station in Tokyo that allowed us to take all transports in the region. We visited the fumarolas of the mount Kimi, coming back thour the lake and than took a bus that left us just at the doorstep of the hotel. Fantastic nature. On top of this, the hotel offers onsen, swimming pool and private onsen in the room.”

“Service and facilities were excellent. Staff went out of their way to make sure we were looked after and even organised a birthday surprise for me. Dinner and breakfast were great and there was a large selection of drinks to accompany the meals. We booked an hour massage and it was exceptional. If we had more time here (only 1 night) we would have booked more spa services. The public baths were very relaxing including both indoor and open air baths. They also included high end skin care products for before and after bathing. We would happily book again in the future.”

On the slopes of Joyama Mountain, Hakonenomori Okada Hotel features open-air hot-spring baths overlooking forested hills.
“The hotel was not new but lovely and very clean. We went there for the Onsen or Hot Springs as it was a reasonably priced hotel and attached to the Onsen via a walk way. Very convenient and the Onsen was lovely. It is a good idea to read about the Onsen before you go so you know the proper traditional procedure to follow prior to using it. The staff couldn't speak a lot of English but we didn't have any problems communicating and they were very helpful. We had the traditional breakfast served as a buffet, very good value and tasty. It's up hill and in the valley, Beautiful, but to get to it from the station you need to take the shuttle bus for 100 Y each. It takes you to a sister hotel, Hotel Okada, from there the hotel manager will collect you and take you to the hotel. It's a good idea to wait because although it's only a short distance it is a bit steep to get up there with your luggage. It works the same going back. We took our two children with us, aged 13 and 11. It was a wonderful experience they will always remember. We needed to stay longer.”

“We booked a room with a private balcony bath and a tatami room. It was beautiful as well as being really spacious! We were picked up from the train station - which was a relief as the walk uphill with suitcases would not have been much fun!! (They also dropped us back off at the train station after we'd checked out too!) The facilities were great, we were free to use the the public & private baths, as well as our own balcony bath. The lounge was comfy and we were able to help ourselves to free tea and coffee. We also used the washing machines and driers which were free of charge, with reception providing washing powder for free - so useful when you could only fit so many clothes in your suitcase! The staff were lovey - I'd forgotten to mention beforehand that my partner and I are pescetarians, and although they couldn't provide a meat free breakfast on the first morning, they spoke to the chef and the following morning they adapted our breakfast to suit us. We had a lovely stay.”

The staff are so polite, helpful & friendly. We stayed half board in a room with a private onsen (hot spring bath) on the balcony. We were served a 12 course Japanese meal for dinner in our room and breakfast was similarly amazing. You wear the traditional Japanese yugata (informal kimono) while in the property which makes it feel really authentic. Next to Hayakawa River and overlooking bamboo hills, Hakone’s Shiunso Ryokan offers luxurious Japanese accommodation with natural hot-spring baths.
“Hospitality was superb. Rooms beautifully appointed traditional style. Right next to a roaring river (which some may find hard to sleep with but we loved it). Food was traditional kaiseki meals - beautifully prepared and presented. If you don't like seafood or pickles this will be chalkenging, but if you are after an authentic Japanese experience you can't beat this place. The onsens were perfect temperature and so nice taking a soak right next to the river!”

If you want authentic experience this is a great place to stay. It is very convenient to the festival, lake, boat ride and ropeway (via boat ride). Less than a 10 minute walk. Once you get off at your bus stop the guest house is one block away. I recommend this stay.”

“I loved that once I'd checked in I could choose my own robe from the colourful, pretty selection. I loved wearing it down to the onsen and experiencing the onsen, especially under the stars at night. I loved the massage chair - so much so I woke myself up snoring. The tatami rooms were beautiful and cosy with the heater on. It felt odd but special that there were no showers in the room so you had to experience a true, traditional way of living - for a very short time.”

Offering traditional accommodations, Mitake is a 20-minute drive from Hakone Yumoto Train Station (on the Hakone Tozan Railway).
“It was the most amazing and wonderful night in Japan! Absolutely worth the price. Easy to take a bus (you can use Hakone Free Pass) from Lake Ashino to Mitake, but check their japanese name, because the sign wasnt in english. Staff was very kind and helpful. Onsens were amazing! I recommed to pay extra for dinner and breakfast, it's delicious, served in your room and great experience! Breakfast is traditional japanese and very good but there's a shop nearby if it doesnt suit you. Hotel offers yukatas that you can wear during the stay, we felt like we were in a movie!”

“We travelled to Hakone over Christmas with my brother. Initially I had booked just one night, but we decided to book another one and it ended up being the best decision ever! Mac the host was very social with a great sense of humor. He basically told us what to do on our stay and his advice was golden! We had the perfect day taking the pirate ship at 9am and continuing with the ropeway and cable cars admiring Mt Fuji. This route is usually taken in the opposite direction, which is why we never had to stand in lines. In the evening we visited an onsen. What a great way to spend Christmas! There are only three spots in Hakone where the Mt Fuji can be seen and one of the spots just happened to be our room’s window! Amazing!”

“We had a pleasant one night stay at this hotel which is reasonably well located for exploring the Hakone area. The manager was very helpful to us making a couple of special trips in the hotel shuttle bus to and from the Hakone station, to collect our luggage so we could explore the area and then later to pick us up to take us back to the hotel. His English is good. The hotel is comfortable and well presented. We had no booked the tradition dinner but they have a very good dinner buffet where some of the main dishes are cooked fresh by the Chef – good value for money.”

“The staff are Korean-Japanese, and I guess it affects a bit to me (I am Korean living in Los Angeles). They were soooooo nice to me. I was drinking beer at the lobby, and one of staff came out and brought some food for chaser. He was not good at Korean, but he tried hard to communicate in Korean for me, and changed TV channel to Korean. Above all, the dinner was awesome. Old lady prepares bed and dinner for me, and that traditional Japanese dinner was one of my top meals in Japan. (Skewer in Gonpachi and dinner at Umimoto) I wish I could stay longer.”
