“My girlfriend and i stayed here for a week, in a junior suite. The room was amazing, very spacious and clean. We had our own private (huge!) balcony and sitting room area. The room was cleaned to perfection every day by a very friendly lady ! (She even made figures in the bedsheet and turned on the airco so we came "home" to a clean and cold room) The reception staff were all very helpfull and kind. Each one of them took there time to assist us in anything they could. (From telling me where i could best park my car, to ordering taxi's , to mailing postcards). They really made us feel welcome and at home. But not only the reception staff was very friendly and helpfull, so was the rest of the staff.(breakfast, and staff at the pool was very kind to, bringing our drinks to where our sunbeds were next to the pool) Breakfast was simple but tasty ! A sellection of some bread and toast, fresh fruit (they switch freshly cut fruit daily) and eggs bacon and cheeses for example. If we ever visit Madeira again we would surely come back to this great hotel and so we highly recommand people to book here ! We both work in the hospitality business so we know how hard it can be , and normally are very critical on other hotels. But we couldnt find any flaws here. All in all, we had an amazing stay”

If you want more, buy it at the supermarkt and you can eat it there. The rolls were very good from the own bakery. Even for me as vegetarian you have enough to eat. The own bakery next to it has nice cafe and nice cakes for resonable prices. WiFi was perfect everywhere, the TV is oldschool, but for holiday its ok - go out in the nature instead. Remember this hotel is in oldtown in a restaurant & bar area. You will asked every day for lunch. At the weekend you can hear a little noise from the bars. But completely ok! Many thanks to Veronica and her Team for that sweet little place. They are so friendly and organise everything what is possible for them.”

“This is a very nice and clean place; two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and a balcony with sea view was more than enough for three of us (a couple with a child aged 5). The place is close to the centre of Funchal so if you prefer staying in the city no need for a car however we recommend renting a car as there are many interesting places to see on the island. The owner is extremely helpful. We rented a car from his company; he picked us from the airport at night and showed the way to the apartment. Even before our arrival he gave us a lot of hints e.g. where to buy stuff for breakfast, where to eat in the evening, what to see, etc. If we come back to Madeira for sure we'll stay in the same place.”

“Overall, this hotel is absolutely stunning! It is not exactly a hotel, rather a house with two appartments. We were supposed to be staying in the smaller one downstairs but unfortunately it was completely flooded upon our arrival - luckily, Joao who picked us up from the airport (for 25EUR) and was very helpful the entire time contacted the owner and we could stay all five nights in the upper appartment which is much bigger! (Don't know what would happen if it was occupied). The appartment has two bedrooms, super modern large kitchen, spatious living/dining room and agreat bathroom. There's a huge TV and a comfortable sofa. And the sea view is beautiful. However, the smaller appartment downstairs looked also very nice and would also be definitely worth the money. We really, really recommend staying here!”

One nice thing was that one part of the apartment was like self-contained with it´s own, really large, bathroom. Close to Old Town and bus stop. The Old Town is jammed with restaurant and it is also close to the Teleferico (cable railway) that takes you to the top of Monte with another fabulous view of Funchal and surrounding mountains. If you have a car there is parking in the garage in the same building. Great! The owner Beatriz was very helpful and when our son lost his cellphone in a taxi, at our departure, they did everything to help us and both found the phone and send it to us. W travel a lot and book our living ourselves and this is the nicest place so far! Thank you Beatriz and Miguel!”

There is a covered parking area, which was a great advantage because of the cheaper insurance on the car rental. Its a bit further away from the center, but therefore quiet, with cheaper shops and a nice restaurant nearby. Its also close to the beach. Which we didnt appreciate much, because its quite unpleasant. But can be practical if you want a swim every day. Also, there is a public transport that runs frequently and stops right outside the house. The timetable is 100% reliable. There is a very cheap car rental just around the corner, but you need to book the car in advance, otherwise it will not be available.”

“Roda -Mar Apts certainly lived up to all of our expectations with its well appointed furniture and decor exactly as the pictures tell, everything was supplied (obviously apart from food and drink) and we were totally at home for the 5 days that we were there and definitely spoilt with its wonderful sea view. The secure building and spacious underground parking were superb and with "The Forum" shopping centre just across the main road and two superb restaurants below the building at underground parking level you have great local choice. One tip would be to contact the owner prior to confirm a checking -in time. We had told him we would be there at 2pm (supposedly the earliest check-in time.) “We stayed here in a total of 23, mostly sunny days. The rain that came fell during the nights. Grand views. Also a great place to study Funchal´s daily cat-life if you, like us, are fond of these creatures. If you don´t need the "facilities" the Lido-hotels provides, and if you don´t intend to visit downtown-restaurants at every meal, we think this is a very good place to have your vacation. Especially, if several days with wet weather should occur. Life in a studio or a hotel room can be somewhat claustrophobic. Berna offers a lot of space, good cooking opportunities, good reading light, excellent wifi, actually we had better possibilities to see recordings from our domestic NRK-channel than we do have at home! Upon arrival there will be some basics, like milk, bread, sandwich spread, water, toiletries, detergents....and then, once you have installed yourself with all the food and refreshments you need (which might be a bit strenuous), you can live very well here - without leaving the apartment at all. We would more than gladly come back.”

“Everything! From the time we were greeted by Monica with a welcome pack of homegrown fruit and vegetables, to the final day where it was not a problem for us to stay a little longer to catch a late flight. I have never before yearned to return to a villa before I'd even spent one night there. The location was amazing, with views of Funchal Marina from the upstairs terrace, and literally just around the corner from the Botanic Gardens. The house was incredible with 4 double bedrooms, 1 twin room (with a funky cabin bed) and a further single room off one of the doubles. Loads of wardrobe space in all the bedrooms too. There are 2 double bedrooms downstairs and 2 doubles, the twin and the single upstairs. There's also a wonderful library upstairs for relaxing far from the madding crowd, with french windows leading to a delightful sun terrace with seating and views to the Marina for watching the cruise ships arriving and leaving. The main floor has 3 dining areas (kitchen, dining room and al fresco), a lovely relaxing living room with two seating areas and sliding doors leading out to the garden which also has extensive seating to relax while you gaze out to sea. We hired a car which was useful to see all of the island, but we did walk into Funchal from the villa one day (very steep, hard on the knees) and buses go between the Marina and the end of the street (No 29, 31 and 31A - €1.95 per journey or you can get 1, 3, 5 or 7 day tickets). After many years of renting villas abroad, this is without doubt the most comfortable and best value property I have ever stayed in and I cannot wait to return.”

“The apartment is brand new - and it has been furnished with great taste keeping the comfort of guests in mind. The apartment has all the amenities one would need to stay. The views are incredible - you can see stunning sunrises over the ocean. It took us 20-25 mins to walk down to the marina and about 30 mins to walk back up , but there are frequent buses that make the travel time much lesser. There are a lot of shops nearby - for groceries as well as restaurants/bakeries. Rodrigo is an incredible host - he was there promptly for the checkin and checkout.”

The well appointed kitchen had all the crockery, cutlery and utensils I could've wished for. The WIFI connection was excellent. Above all, I really appreciated the communication that my hosts provided. Nothing was too much trouble for them. My flight from Edinburgh was delayed. I arrived at the apartment two hours later than anticipated to be warmly greeted, given a tour and handed the keys. The location of the apartment was perfect for either walking or taking a bus to the city centre. There was a bus stop at the end of the street. The area was quiet. There were shops nearby where I could buy essentials such as bread and milk. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this excellent accommodation to anybody, as long as they are able bodied - it's located on the third floor and doesn't have a working lift - and looking for a place to stay in Funchal.”
