“This was a piece of paradise in Kyoto! The room itself was very large, particularly for Japan and extremely clean. The room was beautifully finished with gorgeous features- solid hardwood doors with beautiful patterns, lovely designer washbasin, lacquered chairs and the most comfortable bath I have ever been in. The room had a view over a tranquil garden too, which was wonderful! :) The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was varied, generous and delicious. The kaiseki menu would have had about 20 courses, and they were all perfectly executed. I would say this whole operation is a labour of love. Looking back on our trip, we agreed this was by a large margin the best room either of us have ever been in. Although the location of the hotel is a bit out of city centre, it is actually in some ways better than being in the middle of Kyoto. If you enjoy walking, you will find the hotel is in an older part of town, with 3 temples within 500m of the ryokan. There is also a botanic garden about 2km walk away. We had A wonderful time, loved the views and left feeling thoroughly relaxed”

In addition to the traditional bathing area, there was a large soaking tub on the small balcony that was perfect for relaxing after walking 15-20,000 steps a day to take in the sights around Kyoto. Our host was very friendly and communicative. He showed us how to operate the automatic filling system for the soaking tub and offered to help call a cab on the morning of our departure. If I ever find myself in Kyoto again, I would definitely choose to stay here.”

“I missed the bus run by this Ryokan, so should go there by myself. Before arriving, I thought it would be hard to go there by public transport, but it was really easy! “One of the most amazing stays ever! This was our first time staying in a traditional Japanese Ryokan and it totally met our (high) expectations. The surrounding area is gorgeous -- there are several hiking trails and temples hidden in the large forest so be sure to get there early to explore. The service/hospitality was top-notch and the bathroom and rooms were very clean. Getting to relax in a beautiful private bath outside while listening to the rain and looking out at the lush green forest was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The kaiseki dinner overlooking the water at night was also just incredible. The staff and hostesses were so friendly and explained everything to us at the beginning of our stay. They helped bring in our luggage, transported us to where we needed to go, showed us how to use the baths, and made us green tea. We were wowed the entire time during our stay.”

“Great traditional inn. Service and breakfast was excellent. Room was very clean and had everything we needed including complementary tea and some sweets. Toilets were very clean as well. It had free wifi and they lent us cute japanese robes to use inside the inn. Note that the stairs can be a bit steep but the helpful staff brought our bags up for us so it was not an issue. Also note that the women's showers are in a single large bathroom so you should be comfortable in your own skin (while men's shower was for a single person so it's more private). Overall it was a wonderful ryokan experience and I highly recommend staying here.”
